This summer, WVU will replace its current identity management platform with a new product, Okta, to reduce costs and complexity and to gradually improve the single sign-on experience.
All existing WVU Login accounts will be moved into Okta on June 1. Processes in Okta will require the use of a personal, non-WVU email account, so please go to login.wvu.edu before May 30, select Manage Account, and ensure that you have a valid recovery email address on file. If not, you can create one or Change Recovery Contact Information. After June 1, all new accounts will be activated in Okta, and all password resets will be done in Okta. You will continue to receive password-expiration notices starting at 15 days in your WVU email account, but after June 1, they will direct you to okta.wvu.edu.
Duo two-factor authentication will remain in place for now, but starting June 1, you won’t be able to print out backup codes, as this functionality does not exist in Okta. Backup codes generated before June 1 will continue to work until we retire Duo on Oct. 1.
This fall, WVU will transition from Duo Security to Okta’s integrated multi-factor authentication app, Okta Verify. However, you will continue to use Duo until Oct. 1 because most WVU applications and services require that form of authentication.
