Support available to students affected by Hurricane Helene

Several southern states have been devastated by the effects of Hurricane Helene. Our hearts go out to the students and their families who have been affected by this tragedy.  We want to offer you our support and assistance during this difficult time.

WVU has asked our faculty to be supportive and flexible during this difficult time. If you need to miss class, please contact the Office of Campus and Community Life at campuslife@mail.wvu.edu for assistance notifying your instructors.

Many of you may feel helpless being so far from home. Our staff at the Carruth Center for Counseling and Psychological Services are available to provide counseling for those of you who are feeling stressed and anxious about your families and hometowns. Please call 304-293-4431 between 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. to speak with a counselor; if you need assistance after hours, call and press 1 to speak with an on-call counselor.

The WVU Hub team is prepared to work with any student impacted by the flooding if they are eligible for potential financial aid adjustments. The information you provided on your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) may no longer accurately reflect your family’s financial situation. Financial aid professionals can review and update your FAFSA to ensure it reflects your current financial situation. For more information, visit our EFC/SAI Calculation Appeal webpage. Please note that if your Student Aid Index (SAI) is less than or equal to 0 you have already been offered the maximum amount of aid you are eligible to receive.

Your West Virginia University family, friends and classmates stand with and support you during this challenging time.
