The West Virginia University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics invites all fans to enjoy a day of fun and festivities at the second-ever Mountaineer Fan Fest, set to coincide with the gymnastics and wrestling teams’ Beauty and the Beast Match on Sunday, Feb. 23, inside the WVU Coliseum.
The Coliseum Gold Gate will open at 12 p.m. The gymnastics and wrestling competitions will begin at 1 p.m.
The Mountaineer Fan Fest brings together many of the WVU teams and student-athletes in one place for a fun afternoon of games and activities. Upon entrance, fans are encouraged to pick up their passport for the day and visit each of the team stations, including a selfie station with several members of the WVU football team.
A complete listing of team activities is below.
"I am really excited for Mountaineer Fan Fest," gymnastics coach Jason Butts said. "I think this is an excellent family event that pairs well with our Beauty and the Beast meet. It's great to see the whole athletic department support each other and come together to present a fun day for our great fans."
“This event is my first opportunity to be a part of Beauty and the Beast, and I’m really excited to experience everything I have heard about this one-of-a-kind event,” wrestling coach Tim Flynn said. “The Mountaineer Fan Fest is a tremendous opportunity for our fans to get to know our student-athletes and allow Mountaineer Nation to come together as one and show their support.”
Fans will get a stamp for their passports at each station. Completed passports may be turned into the WVU athletics marketing staff at the Gold Gate, and participants will be eligible for one of five grand prizes: two tickets to the men’s basketball team’s game against Baylor (March 7, 1 p.m.), two baseball season tickets, a basketball signed by coach Bob Huggins, a football signed by coach Neal Brown and a WVU swag bag filled with Mountaineer gear. The winners will be announced during the gymnastics/wrestling competition, and fans must be present to win.
Additionally, the first 500 Mountaineer Maniac students in attendance will receive free pizza and a giveaway item. Sunday also features special appearances by Mr. Twister, the face-painting and balloon animal artist, and Musket, the Mountaineer Kids Club’s mascot. MKC members can also pick up their t-shirts the day of the event.
The Mountaineer gymnastics and wrestling teams will begin competition simultaneously at 1 p.m. The gymnasts will face Bowling Green, Towson and Western Michigan, while the wrestlers will grapple with Utah Valley. A fan meet-and-greet on the Coliseum concourse will cap the day’s events.
WVU students are admitted free with a valid WVU Student I.D. Tickets are on sale now for other fans at WVUGAME.com and also will be available for purchase at the WVU Coliseum Gold Gate Ticket Office on Feb. 23.
To provide a safer environment for Mountaineer fans and to expedite entry into all ticketed WVU athletic events, the West Virginia Department of Intercollegiate Athletics enforces the NFL's Clear Bag Policy.
