From April 14-18, the Department of English will be holding a Week of Writing celebration. There will be several events that the campus community is invited to attend, including:
Alumni Zoom PanelTuesday, April 15 from 12-1 p.m. via Zoom
Recent graduates that focused on Professional Writing and Editing will take part in a panel conversation via Zoom about their respective paths to their current positions and reflect on the ways that their WVU education prepared them for their careers.
WRIT Café
Wednesday, April 16 from 1-3 p.m. in Colson Hall 130
Everyone is invited to a casual gathering with donuts and coffee, as well as button making. There will also be a special guest–a therapy dog named Ruby–in attendance. This event will also be a space for students interested in the offerings of the Department of English, including the B.A. in Professional Writing and Editing and the B.S. in Scientific and Technical Writing to learn more and meet current students and faculty.
Writing for Community and Cultural Engagement + PWE Capstone Showcase
Thursday, April 17 from 4-6 p.m. in Colson Hall 130
This event is a celebration of how WVU students have used writing in all of its forms—textual, visual, aural, multimodal—to engage and support cultures and communities. Presentations will showcase a range of topics, from the writing of student interns working with community organizations, to grant writing projects with the local library, to representations of Appalachia in popular culture.
All week, there will be a celebration of graduating students in the Department of English featured on the infostation in Colson Hall. There will also be activities set up in the main entry of Colson Hall that anyone can participate in, including a collaborative poem.
