August and December 2021 graduates invited to participate in December Commencement

August and December 2021 graduates of West Virginia University are invited to participate in Commencement ceremonies scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 18 in the WVU Coliseum.

10 a.m. Ceremony:

  • Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources
  • College of Law
  • College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences
  • Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design
  • School of Dentistry
  • School of Medicine
  • School of Nursing
  • School of Pharmacy
  • School of Public Health

2 p.m. Ceremony:

  • College of Creative Arts
  • College of Education and Human Services
  • Eberly College of Arts and Sciences
  • John Chambers College of Business and Economics
  • Reed College of Media

If you plan to participate, please complete the online registration form at https://bit.ly/3AgdMnc no later than Dec. 11. This registration is in addition to completing the application to graduate through the Office of the University Registrar which was due by Oct. 15.


Event Information

Please keep the following information in mind as you make your plans:

  • Clear Bag Policy will be in effect for all Commencement ceremonies. 
  • On Dec. 18, graduates will report to the Basketball Practice Facility (BPF) one hour prior to the ceremony start time to check-in and receive instructions for line-up. Please refer to the start times above – 10 a.m. (check-in at 9 a.m.) and 2 p.m. (check-in at 1 p.m.) - for your school or college.
  • Tickets are not required and there are no restrictions on the number of guests a graduate may bring. Each ceremony will last approximately two hours.
  • Graduates are required to wear caps and gowns. Regalia is available for purchase online from Herff Jones or in person from the WVU Bookstores. Order deadline to pick up at the WVU Bookstore is Oct. 29 and for ship to home is Nov. 22.
  • Doctoral candidates will be hooded onstage by a faculty member of their choice or a WVU administrator. Master’s candidates will not be hooded on stage and should wear their hoods to the ceremony.
  • Commemorative programs will be mailed to the home (permanent) address on file so please make sure your address is correct in the system.
  • Diplomas will be mailed after all grades are finalized and certified by the Office of the University Registrar.
  • Names of the 2021 August and December graduates will be listed in the December 2021 Commencement program.
