WVU offers many ways to get involved during Earth Week

Celebrate Earth Week 2026 with the WVU Office of Sustainability through a variety of activities designed to support our environment and encourage sustainable living.
Events will be hosted by the Sustainability team and other WVU units from Saturday, April 18, to Sunday, April 26. Learn about all the ways you can participate and learn throughout Earth Week.
Saturday, April 18
WVU Core Arboretum Spring Flower Festival (2-6 p.m.) – This family-friendly, free event features self-guided wildflower tours, live music, food trucks in the parking lot, and other fun activities.
Sunday, April 19
WVU Department of Biology Spring Ephemeral Wildflower Walks – Free wildflower walks are hosted on all Sundays in April at noon, 12:30, 3:00, and 3:30 p.m. each day.
Monday, April 20
Campus Tree Planting (10 a.m. to noon) – Help WVU’s Tree Campus Committee plant a few new trees on the Downtown Campus.
Tuesday, April 21
Campus Sustainability Tour (11 a.m. and 1 p.m.) – Join the Sustainability team outside of the Mountainlair for a 40-45 minute downtown walking tour that highlights campus sustainability features. No registration necessary.
Wednesday, April 22
Earth Day Menu – To celebrate Earth Day, WVU Hospitality Group has curated a unique, plant-based menu that will be served during lunchtime at each dining hall.
Make It, Take It Seed Planting Kit (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.) – Stop by the Mountainlair lobby near the Hatfields entrance to make a free seed planting kit to take home and grow. Themed kits include grow pizza (basil, chive, oregano, and tomato seeds), grow salsa (cilantro, chive, jalapeno, and tomato seeds), and grow a salad (carrot, cucumber, kale, and lettuce seeds).
Thursday, April 23
Free Electronics Recycling Day – Our campus community is encouraged to recycle personally owned electronics at the WVU Student Rec Center.
Mountain AIR Presentation by WVU Art in the Libraries (4 p.m.) — Drop by the Milano Reading Room in the Downtown Library, where WVU Art in the Libraries Mountain Artist-in-Residence L. Renée will present a visual series, “Remain,” inspired by her findings in the West Virginia & Regional History Center environmental archives.
Friday, April 24
Arbor Day Tree Planting Ceremony (1-1:30 p.m.) – Join the WVU Tree Campus committee as a new tree is planted on the Health Sciences Center Campus near the memorial garden, and learn more about what this group is doing to protect and care for current trees and increase tree diversity on campus.
Earth Day on the Green (3-7 p.m.) – Join the Sierra Student Coalition on the Mountainlair Green for Earth Day activities, art vendors, live music, food, and more.
