UPD to increase officer presence at high pedestrian traffic intersections
April 13, 2026
To remind drivers to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, University Police will increase officer presence at key intersections across campus in the coming weeks.
“We are seeing several issues with drivers who are not paying attention to pedestrians crossing the road,” said Chief Sherry St. Clair. “Our team will be more closely monitoring driver behavior across campus to ensure pedestrians stay as safe as possible.”
Specific areas of concern include intersections at Falling Run Road and University Avenue, Grant Avenue and Campus Drive (near Life Sciences Building), and Fine Arts Drive and Evansdale Drive (behind the Canady Creative Arts Center).
Drivers should slow down near pedestrian intersections and use extra caution in these high pedestrian traffic areas. Obey all traffic lights and signals, and be mindful of nearby pedestrian signals when turning right or left on a green light.
University Police asks drivers to slow down and watch for pedestrians at all times. Pausing for a few seconds, limiting your speed, and staying alert can help keep all Mountaineers safe.
