Undergraduate GEF and Honors course to be offered in Fall 2026: Social Determinants of Health (PUBH 202)

Health isn’t just about doctors and hospitals—it’s about housing, education, income, and opportunity. PUBH 202: Social Determinants of Health is a 3-credit course available to undergraduate students interested in learning more about the social factors or determinants that impact health.
During the course, students will develop basic literacy regarding social concepts and processes that influence health status and health disparities. Course assignments will include meme posts, reaction papers, and a book report based on the memoir “Educated” by Tara Westover.
This course:
- Meets the General Education Foundations Area 4 (GEF 4) requirement
- Includes an Honors section
- Meets a course requirement for the Public Health minor
- Meets a course requirement for the Rural Appalachian Health Disparities minor
