February 23, 2026
The Homestart Closet is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charity whose mission is to welcome international students and help them establish their new home in Morgantown with gifts of basic equipment.
It was started by Women Across Cultures in the 1990s and is now a collaborative effort, led by volunteers and sponsored by the Office of Campus & Community Life.
Volunteers are needed to:
- Help with organizing and stocking the closet
- Making deliveries
- Making minor repairs to furniture
- Helping to staff open hours Anyone who can spare a few hours is encouraged to complete this volunteer application
If you are a student who is moving out of Morgantown or a community member who is downsizing, please consider donating any unwanted items to us. We particularly welcome:
- Blankets, comforters and sheets in full/queen size for those living off campus and in Twin XL for the dorms
- Pots, pans and skillets, and furniture
- Cash, which allows us to fill in the gaps and to rent a truck to help with deliveries, is also welcome. Any questions can be directed to Liz Finklea at liz.finklea@gmail.com or 304-685-8312, or Skylar Braithwaite at skylar.braithwaite@mail.wvu.edu or 304-293-5611.
