Students invited to celebrate Constitution Day on Sept. 17
September 11, 2025
Celebrate Constitution Day at the College of Law to commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution 238 years ago.
In observance of Constitution Day, a panel of WVU Law faculty will discuss, “Universities, Academic Freedom, and the Constitution,” on Sept. 17 from 12 to 1:15 p.m. in Fitzsimmons Event Hall at the College of Law.
Each year, West Virginia University joins federally funded educational institutions across the country in celebrating Constitution Day by providing an educational program about the U.S. Constitution.
As dynamics continue to shift within the federal government, panelists will explore how our education system will also to be impacted. Join the conversation about the constitutional value of academic freedom, what obligations universities should have to maintain a positive learning environment for all students, and students’ rights to free speech.
Panelists include:
• Jerry Edwards, Associate Professor of Law
• John Estep, Visiting Associate Professor of Law
• John E. Taylor, Jackson Kelly Professor of Law
