Stay safe and be prepared for Mountaineer game day
September 3, 2026
As Mountaineer fans prepare for game day at Milan Puskar Stadium, WVU Police encourages students and fans to plan ahead, look out for one another, and help keep the game-day experience safe and enjoyable.
Fans attending ticketed WVU Athletics events should remember that the clear bag policy remains in effect. Fans are limited to one bag per person.
Students who choose to drink alcohol are encouraged to pace themselves, alternate alcoholic beverages with non-alcoholic beverages, keep their drinks in sight, and stay with friends or a group.
If someone may be experiencing a drug or alcohol overdose, call 911 immediately. Under the University’s medical amnesty policy and West Virginia law, individuals who seek medical assistance in an emergency may be protected from certain disciplinary or legal consequences. Always seek help when someone’s life may be at risk.
Students and fans are also encouraged to be aware of their surroundings. If you see something suspicious, say something. Download the LiveSafe app and enable push notifications for direct and discreet two-way communication with University Police.
Under the West Virginia Campus Self-Defense Act, commonly referred to as Campus Carry, fans cannot legally bring a pistol or revolver into a WVU Athletics event at Milan Puskar Stadium. Weapons detection devices will be used at stadium gates.
Fans are also asked to be respectful of fellow Mountaineers, visiting fans, event staff, and campus property throughout the day.
Anyone who needs emergency assistance should call 911. University Police can also be reached at 304-293-3136, or fans can speak with an officer working the event.
For additional safety information, visit the WVU Police website. Students are also encouraged to register for or check their registration with the WVU Safety Notification System to receive alerts about emergencies and incidents on or near campus.
