Your mental health matters. The Carruth Center is here to support you with immediate care, emergency services, and ongoing resources.

1. Mental Health Emergency Support

• Crisis Support During Open Hours

If you are experiencing a mental health crisis or urgent need, you can walk in or call 304-293-4431 during office hours. No appointment is necessary. This service is also available if you want guidance on how to best support a friend who is struggling.

• After-Hours Mental Health Emergency Line

Outside of business hours, call 304-293-4431 and press 1 to be connected with a crisis intervention specialist right away.

2. Personalized Mental Health Care

Your care begins with an initial appointment at the Carruth Center. You’ll meet with a therapist who will work with you to find the type of care that best fits your needs. Services include:

• Short-Term Individual Counseling

Our clinicians bring diverse backgrounds and use evidence-based strategies (from CBT to EMDR) to provide effective care.

• Group Therapy

• Help Finding Off-Campus Providers

Including long-term therapy, psychiatric services, or psychological testing.

• Educational Workshops/Trainings

Such as Mental Health 101 and the Unplugged Workshop.

• Self-Paced Tools

o From Cringe to Comfy Module

WVU students have free access to BetterMynd, an online therapy platform that connects you with a diverse network of licensed mental health counselors. Sessions are conducted virtually, giving you flexible and confidential support wherever you are.
