Graduate course for Summer 2026: Public Mental Health (PUBH 658)

May 7, 2026

Public Mental Health (PUBH 658) is an online course available to graduate students. No prerequisites or instructor permission are required.

This 3-credit hour course offered by the WVU School of Public Health is instructed by Ahmed Aboraya, MD, DrPH, and explores the principles and methods of general epidemiology with an emphasis on their application to mental disorders. Graduate students will develop a foundational understanding of the significance of mental health in the public health domain. In addition to covering the epidemiology and risk factors of major psychiatric disorders—including anxiety, mood, psychotic, personality and substance use disorders—the course introduces students to the principles of measurement-based care (MBC). Through video-based clinical interviews, students will practice MBC by rating patient assessments and comparing their evaluations with expert ratings.
