Check info if you did not receive WVU Alert test

September 11, 2025

A test of the WVU Alert system was conducted at 1 p.m. Monday (Sept. 8). Any students who did not receive a text message or email during the test are asked to visit alert.wvu.edu to add or update their contact information.

Students are automatically enrolled in the WVU Alert system through their MIX email but may need to add their phone number, if it has not already been provided. If parents are also interested in receiving WVU Alert messages, students can add parental contact information through their accounts.

A WVU Alert is sent through all possible channels of communication when there is an imminent threat or impact to the safety of the campus community, including when the University is operating on a delayed schedule or is closed due to emergency weather conditions.

A Campus Warning is sent through email, social media and any other communication channels deemed necessary when a Clery-reportable crime occurs within the area designated by the Clery Act, and is reported to campus security authorities, including UPD, or local police agencies, and that is considered by the University to represent a serious or continuing threat to students and employees.

Community Noticesare posted on social media and any other communication channels deemed necessary for less urgent incidents in an effort to enhance safety on campus and provide useful information.

All members of the University community are encouraged to download the LiveSafe app and allow push notifications to receive important safety messages. Other app features include options to anonymously report tips to WVU Police through direct two-way communication and to virtually walk home with friends or family.

Usage of both the WVU Alert system and LiveSafe is highly recommended to allow for redundancies in critical emergency communications.
